as just typing the description into the box, we'd all be rich.
Unfortunately, there's a bit more to it. Sure, you can just type it in, but
yuck, how boring!! Okay, so you need to learn HTML and maybe get some
templates to spruce it up, or possibly invest in Microsoft Front Page.
Well, I'm going to try and help you out.

10 Ways
Text Can IMPACT Your Reader's Buying Decision!
The appearance of your eBay ad text can
actually increase or decrease your sales. The size, font, style and color of
your text can easily affect your reader's buying decision. Below are ten
points to consider when typing text in your ad.
1. Easy To Read- You want to make
it easy for your visitors to read your text. You don't want to use a light
colored text like yellow on a white background and you don't want to use
dark blue text on a black background.
2. Create A Mood- You want to
use the color of your text to create a mood for the reader. If you want to
create excitement, use some red text. If you want to create greed, use a
some green text. Use colors that would put you in a mood to buy your
product.
3. Grab Their Attention- You
can grab your readers attention by using headlines. Make the headline more
noticeable by using a different colored headline than your ad copy. This
offsets the headline and pulls the reader into the rest of your ad copy.
4. Highlight Keywords- You can
emphasize phrases and keywords that are important to your readers. For
instance, use super, deluxe, fast, low price, free, new, etc. You could use
bolding, underlining, italics, color changing, etc.
5. Sizing It Up- You don't want
to use text that is too small or to large. You want to use larger text for
your headlines and subheadings. You want to use smaller text for your ad
copy. If your grandparents can't read it, it's too small.
6. Don't Use All CAPS!- You
don't want to use all capital letters in your ad copy. It looks
unprofessional and is hard to read. You may want to use all CAPS in your
headlines to offset it.
7. Font Properly- You want to
use a text font that relates to the product or services your selling. You
don't want to use a comic type font when your selling business books.
8. Spacing Out- It's important
to use spaces properly when typing your text. You should indent and bullet
key benefits your product or service will give the reader. Your headlines,
subheadings, sentences and paragraphs should be consistently spaced
throughout your web site.
9. I Need Sunglasses- Don't use
all bright text colors and backgrounds on your web site. It will make your
text hard to read and actually bother your readers' eyes to the point they
just decide to leave your site.
10. Check The Readability- It's
important to check your spelling and grammar before you upload your web
page. When writing an ad copy you're allowed to break some of those grammar
rules to get your point across.

Writing a BETTER
Auction Ad
You have all seen
the difficult-to-read auction descriptions: Small type, run-on sentences and
paragraphs, missing information and so on. If you really want the item, you
are forced to email the seller to get more information – or you just give up
and go on to the next item.
Here's some rules to follow to write
winning auction descriptions:
-
Use the HTML command <font-size=+1> at
the beginning of your description. This will increase the standard eBay
type size to make your words readable on any computer screen.
-
Clearly state what you are selling in
the first paragraph. Make your paragraphs short – no more than two or
three sentences. There is plenty of research that shows web page readers
like to scan text. If you paragraphs are too long, it makes it harder to
scan. Place an extra return between paragraphs to create some white space
around them.
-
Use bullets to describe features and
benefits
-
Write short sentences and/or follow a
long sentence with a short sentence.
-
Write complete sentences (i.e. subject
and a verb). Avoid complex punctuation.
-
Don’t worry about your auction
description being too long. It is more important to include all the
information a buyer needs than to have a short description. If your
description is easy-to-read, potential bidders will keep reading until
they have all the information they need.
-
Describe all relevant details such as
age, condition, hallmarks, flaws, packaging, size, manufacturer, and so
on.
-
Use “power words” to create word
pictures and emotional responses. A few examples are: New, Rare, Genuine,
Beautiful, Original, Charming, First Class, Lovely, Save Money, Bargain,
Guaranteed, and Expensive-Looking. Stress any product benefits such as
health, beauty, time-saving, ease-of-use, money-saving, etc. (Caution:
When using power words, don’t exaggerate. For example do not describe
something as rare if it is not.)
-
Personalize the description. Tell the
reader how or where you found the item or how you use it.
-
Spell out your shipping and payment
terms clearly and completely.
GALLERY PICTURE
SECRETS
By adding eBay Gallery pictures to your
ad, you can increase the amount of words in your ad title. For
example, if you wanted to ad the word "wow" or "look" to your ad title, it
might get someone's attention, but it wastes space and you want to use your
titles effectively for eBay's search engine. No one searches for "wow"
when they're looking for an item. This way you can use the space eBay
gives you for your description only.
Below are some samples you can use.
Right click on them, choose "save picture as", then save them to your hard
drive in a place you can remember. When you're filling out your eBay
selling form, you would add this picture by clicking "browse" and then
selecting the picture that you just saved to your hard drive. The
first picture you upload to eBay is the one that will show up in the
Gallery. Make sure you select Gallery when eBay gives you their
"additional options". It usually costs 25-cents to add this feature to
an eBay ad.
